![]() On April 18, 2012 the CANA-CNRS vessel hosted students and professors of theMittelmeerland Project, organized in partnership by the AA – Architectural Association London, AUB American University of Beirut and Zeit Stiftung Hamburg. Mittelmeerland is a research project investigating the future of the Mediterranean Sea as a territory of water. By analyzing current urbanization and future developments, it aims to generate strong, narrative statements in the field of Urbanism, Architecture, Sociology and Art. Approaching cities from the sea it initiated a series of workshop sessions in Dubrovnik (Croatia), Tangier (Morocco), Istanbul (Turkey), Algiers (Algeria), Alexandria (Egypt) and Beirut (Lebanon). CANA staff welcomed all participants aboard of the vessel. Mr. Stefano Lelli gave a presentation highlighting the history and the acquisition of the scientific vessel, as well as the 5 tasks of the project. Dr. Gaby Khalaf described the condition of the Lebanese coastal areas with special focus on marine pollution, sources typologies and related risks .
